Condemnations by the Muslim World

The whole Muslim World condemned the destruction and demolition campaign of the holy places, shrines and the venerable sites.  These condemnations are still continuing in different forms:

·         ·         Many conferences were organised by Muslim religious leaders and intellectuals and held in most Islamic countries.  Their objectives were to study the situation from all angles and exchange information on the history of the destruction of holy places, its causes and aims and put plans to rebuild the Baqee’ and the holy shrines.

·         ·         Books were written and research papers were presented on these painful events.  This was to examine and verify historically and scientifically the facts surrounding these events so that the case remains alive and well known by the world opinion.  Its objectives were to expose the crimes and destruction work committed by the Wahhabis in the holy places such that humanity would be ashamed of such acts.

 ·         ·         The specific newspapers and magazines that cover such issues published articles on the 8th of Shawwal to commemorate the anniversary of the sad Baqee’ incident.

·         ·         Concerned groups issued bulletins and leaflets on this subject.  In it, they condemned these actions and demanded the restoration of the buildings on the graves of Imams (of the prophet’s household), prophet’s companions and all other Islamic personalities.

·         ·         Official and responsible authorities have written to the international and Islamic organisations all over the world asking them to intervene in this case and to work towards rebuilding the holy shrines.

 ·         ·         The Muslim Ulema (religious leaders) and directors of Islamic centres sent telegrams to the heads of state of Muslim countries and embassies to show them their condemnation and present their demands for the rebuilding of the buildings destroyed by the Wahhabis.

 ·         ·         Marches were organised to condemn the persistence of the Wahhabis in keeping the holy places in a ruined state.  Pictures of the holy places before and after destruction were distributed in these marches

 ·         ·         Many have produced pictures showing the demolition and destruction caused by the Wahhabis to the shrines and holy places at al-Baqee’.  These pictures were then sent to all over the world so that the Baqee’is not forgotten.

·         Committees, associations and organisations were formed all over the world to defend the holy places and in particular the Baqee’and commemorate the anniversary of the holy shrines of the Imams (AS).  And we at the World Organisation for the Preservation of Holy Places concentrate on establishing and strengthening the relationship between all the organisations that plays a role in the endeavour to the rebuilding of the holy places.  We also renew our appeal this year to the UNESCO and other concerned organisations.  Therefore, we submit a letter of appeal concerning this cause to the UNESCO in the hope that the wishes of the Muslims are fulfilled.  We also appeal to the humanitarian and legal organisations for the same aim as it is the one of the basic rights of any nation that considers itself one third of the world population
